I don’t know about you, but things have definitely been shifting and changing for me. I am not sure I was ready for them at first, but I am embracing them now. Let’s face it no one has been able to avoid the changes going on in our world. Every time you turn on the news you are quickly reminded. Heck, every time you leave your home and see everyone wearing masks, you are reminded.

As a whole, we don’t like change. It can create fear and make us feel uncomfortable. In the simplest terms, trauma is created when there is an unwanted change. Well, that sounds about right for how life has been. I know that for me, not only have I been experiencing the changes due to the pandemic, but also the (unwanted) change (trauma) of losing my dad.

How about you? What changes have you been experiencing or observing?

Here are some examples of unwanted change you or someone you know may have experienced:

  • The loss of a relationship. A divorce, a break-up with a partner, a friend, or a family member.
  • The loss of the idea of how you thought your life was going to unfold. This could be related to a career, financial, relationship, family, etc.
  • Bullying, either physical or verbal. It could be as simple as a comment made to us by a mentor, a teacher, or a parent when we were a child. This comment could have stuck with us for years and years – such as “you will never succeed or you are not smart.”
  • Emotional and/or physical abuse. It could have happened during childhood and/or adulthood.
  • The loss of a dream, a goal, a pet, or a loved one.
  • A financial setback.
  • A life-threatening illness.
  • A serious injury or accident.
  • Witnessing traumatic events.

There are situations when the trauma may not have felt significant at the time, but as the years have passed you now realize that the event was traumatic and it did have an impact on you and your life. This is more common than you think.

When we experience an overwhelming traumatic event, our unconscious mind can shift into a “protection” mode. This can look like minimizing or completely blocking out the event that occurred. For example, if you grew up with siblings – have you ever had a conversation about a childhood event that you both experienced, but each of you recalled the events completely different? Well, one reason this can happen is, there was a traumatic event that occurred. It may have been too traumatic for one sibling and they don’t recall anything, but then the other sibling remembers every detail. You were both there, you both experienced the same thing, yet only one of you can recall the events.

Trauma affects us all and it can get in the way of living our lives to the fullest. If we consciously or unconsciously decide to block out the trauma, it is great – for a while.

However, if we do not allow ourselves to acknowledge, process, and move through our traumas it will catch up to us. It will show up as headaches, backaches, body aches, hives, rashes, panic attacks, anxiety, that come out of nowhere. We begin to doubt, lose confidence in ourselves, hold ourselves back, become fearful, and feel “stuck” in our lives. According to Harvard Medical School research, the emotional and physical reactions it triggers can make you more prone to serious health conditions including heart attack, stroke, obesity, diabetes, and cancer.

There are many ways to take of yourself when you’ve experienced trauma, for example, reach out to your support system of friends, your partner, family, or a counselor; get adequate sleep; exercising and eating well are good ways to reduce your stress, etc.

You can also tap into energetic healing. If you have been experiencing unexplained body aches, hives, rashes, panic attacks, anxiety, digestive issues, lack of motivation, irritability, etc., – there may be some deeper energetic blocks that are not allowing you to move through them. Maybe you’ve been working on healing and processing trauma in your life, but still feel stuck and the same things keep coming up for you.

I invite you to experience an intuitive healing session. I can help you energetically process and release the trauma you may be holding on to. Click here to sign-up. Sessions are virtual and will last up to 60 minutes.
