“The purpose of my life is to let things go.” This has been my mantra lately. It was something that Michael Singer, author of the Untethered Soul discussed in a video I recently watched.

This mantra has stuck with me. “The purpose of my life is to let things go.” I decided to incorporate it into my morning meditations. At first, I was simply repeating the mantra 4-5 times, and then I would move on to my silent meditation.

After a while I caught myself repeating the mantra throughout my day. For instance, when I was driving and someone cut me off or was going too slow in front of me. I would repeat – “The purpose of my life is to let things go. The purpose of my life is to let things go.”

When my dogs decided to start barking as I got on a phone call. “The purpose of my life is to let things go. The purpose of my life is to let things go.”

When I felt myself getting impatient because there was a long line at the grocery store or I was put on hold for too long. “The purpose of my life is to let things go. The purpose of my life is to let things go.”

Singer explains that when something bothers you it is an opportunity to heal and grow. It is an opportunity to let go of the negative emotions associated with unpleasant experiences in your life.

If we do not move through the difficult experiences – if we stay, mad, angry, or upset – if we do not let go, if we resist – the energy of the emotions and feelings associated with our difficult experiences will not be released – they will build up.

This built-up energy gets stuck and becomes blockages and disturbances in your mind, body, and soul – and can easily get triggered again and again.

So what can you do about it?

It starts with awareness. Awareness that you may be holding onto emotions and feelings associated with difficult experiences in your life – and that they are being triggered in present situations.

The goal is to catch yourself as you are being triggered – when you feel yourself getting upset, agitated, or defensive. This is when you can choose to act differently and consciously.

Take a moment, breathe, and repeat the mantra – “The purpose of my life is to let things go. The purpose of my life is to let things go.”

This practice will take time and patience but will help you keep your energy moving – so it does not get stuck and create blockages and disturbances in your mind, body, and soul.

It is something I have been practicing for years, by using different techniques and varying mantras. It’s freeing when I can catch myself before I get triggered.

However, there is another piece of this practice to think about. It has to do with releasing the energetic blocks and disturbances that may still be stuck.

It is the energy from those times when you didn’t catch yourself, when you got triggered, mad, angry, or upset and either stayed that way for a while or you tried to push down or ignore the difficult emotions.

We cannot change what has happened in the past, but we can loosen, release, and let go of the energetic blocks and disturbances we may be holding on to.

Working with energy is something I do daily. I clear, release, heal, observe, and tune into my energy and the energy around me all of the time. I believe it is such an important practice for my mental health and well-being.

Do you have a practice that helps you release any stuck energy you may be holding on to?
